Biography

Vesna Grahovac-Pražić

Was born in Gospić in 1955, where she graduated from primary and secondary school. She graduated from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb with a degree in Yugoslav Languages and Literature and Comparative Literature. She worked as a professor of the Croatian Language and Literature at the secondary school in Gospić, and since 1996 she has been employed at Teacher Education Studies in Gospić. Her doctoral dissertation entitled Udžbenički diskurs u hrvatskim dopreporodnim gramatikama / Textbook discourse in Croatian grammar books prior to the Illyrian movement) was defended at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Rijeka where she acquired a PhD in the field of Humanities, field philology, branch Croatistics. At teacher education studies, she performed duties of the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, the Vice Dean for Development, the Vice Dean for Education in Gospić, the Head of the Department of Teacher Studies at the University of Zadar and Deputy Head. She participates in the organization of conferences, exhibits at local conferences and abroad, reviews, she is an associate in scientific and professional projects, holds public lectures, she is a member of the editorial board of journals and proceedings, a member of the professional association and she has designed a course in methodology and the history of languages in the new study program at the University of Zadar. In her associate status, she was included in scientific projects such as The History of Croatian Syntax and Linguistic and visual standards in initial reading and writing of the Croatian Language, she was an external associate on the project Croatian written heritage from the 17th to 19th centuries and Croatian written heritage from the 18th to 20th centuries of the University of Rijeka. She is a member of the project team of the European project Italy-Croatia EXCOVER-Promotion and valorisation of little or unknown inland places of the Adriatic one of the holders of which is the University of Zadar. She has published 4 books: Tragom ličke zavičajnosti / An Insight into Lika Regional Identity (with Sanja Vrcić-Mataija), Šime Starčević, od riči do ričoslovja / Šime Starčević, from a word to a grammar book (with Diana Stolac), Dobri duh Gospića / The Good Soul of Gospić, Život i djelo Manje Kovačević i njezin rod Frkovića / The Life and Work of Manja Kovečević and her Frković Family (with Ante Bežen), 100 godina učiteljskog obrazovanja u Gospiću / 100 years of Teacher Education in Gospić (editorial book with Sanja Vrcić-Mataija). She has published over 60 papers in various journals, serial publications and proceedings as well as several chapters in books. Her area of scientific interest is the Croatian language, methodology of the Croatian language and the Provincialism of Lika. In 2018, she was elected with the academic title Associate Professor. She was also rewarded with the Rector's Award for her many years of scientific and educational work.
